MISSION

The Ivester Healthcare Scholars Program of Choice will provide Dual Enrollment and practical learning experiences for advanced scholars who have demonstrated a focused interest in healthcare fields. Students will engage in rigorous academic classes, unique mentorships, research / internship opportunities, and service applications in a 2-year program.  
This Hall County Schools POC is made possible through our continued partnerships with Brenau University, Lanier Technical College, the University of North Georgia and the Ivester College of Health Sciences at Brenau University.

Niche Program for Students with a Passion for Healthcare

Each year a cohort of approximately 20-25 Howard E. Ivester Early College Dual Enrollment rising junior students will be selected by a committee created by IEC. 
The committee will review student applications for community/school involvement, passion for healthcare fields, references, and high school achievement. 
Exemplary applicants would show passion in one of the following healthcare fields, including but not limited to: Psychology, Sports Medicine, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Physician's Assistant, and General Medicine.
This partnership will increase accessibility and opportunity for our talented and diverse populations interested in healthcare professions.

DETAILS

​Each year, a cohort of 20 - 25 dedicated, rising juniors interested in healthcare fields will be selected.
  • Four semester program (1st - 4th HS periods)
  • Completed program will total 31 Hours of DE credit
  • Friday Seminars:  Medical-based field trips, mentorships in healthcare, HWBL or HMP, speakers
  • DE Curriculum designed for future healthcare professionals
  • Scholars also earn:
    • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

The Ivester Healthcare Scholars cohort will take*:

  • CNA classes (Medical Terminology ALHS 1090, clinical NAST 1100 and ALHS 1113 medical professions) allowing them to begin collecting patient care hours (on 4.5 Honors scale at HS and NAST 1100 satisfies the Patient Care Fundamental course in the CTAE pathways at our high schools).
  AND...
  • 20 hours of rigorous, core academic DE classes to include (counts as 5.0 on scale at HS):
    • PSY 1101;
    • Math 1111 (counts as 4th math needed for graduation and needed pre-reqs for DE science);
    • Human A&P I and II are slated;
    • Plus, any two of the following DE classes:
      • ENG 1101 (counts as 4th ENG at high school);
      • ENG 1102;
      • Chem 1151 and Lab;
      • US Hist; (counts as US at high school);
      • Econ; (counts as Econ at high school);
      • Gov; (counts as Government at high school);
      • Spanish; (counts as your next sequenced Spanish at high school);
      • MATH 1113 (college PreCal);
      • Math 1460 (college Calc);
      • Comm 1101 (speech – Eng elective at HS and Area C for college);
  • Friday Seminars:  Medical-based field trips, mentorships in healthcare, HWBL or HMP, speakers
 
Students will take CTAE/Honors/AP/ IB classes or HWBL/HMP at the high school for 5th, 6th and 7th periods both years.  Students may elect to self-pay for another DE course.

Students must be new to Dual Enrollment OR choose to self pay for all hours over the 31.
 
*Subject to change based on availability

Students completing any core academic curriculum course will receive full credit for that course when transferring to another University System of Georgia Institution (See Articulation Document). The credit also becomes part of the student’s high school transcript: 5.0 scale for core academic classes and 4.5 honors scale for certificate and non-core classes.
Unique to the Ivester (and LCCA) campus:
  • Calendar Aligns with Hall Co School Schedule,
  • All students have access in person academic support that includes tutoring, career guidance, and personalized planning to meet college and career goals.
  • Students w/ Like Peers in classes,
  • Laptops and Transportation from/to high schools provided free for use,
  • Tuition, books and mandatory fees (except for lab) covered by DE,
  • College Professors provide the same rigorous classes!
